With 25 years of service across Ohio and West Virginia, First Settlement Physical Therapy has grown into a leading provider of rehabilitation services. Since the pandemic, the organization has doubled in size and now operates 50 clinics. Tim Guiden, Chief Operating Officer for the past 12 years, has played a key role in scaling operations—including the successful implementation and expansion of OccuPro’s Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) System.
Before partnering with OccuPro, First Settlement relied on four to five different FCE platforms across its clinics. The lack of standardization made it difficult to produce consistent reports, communicate clearly with payors, referral sources, employers, and ensure clinician engagement. “It was frustrating,” Tim recalled. “Clinicians would avoid doing FCEs because the process was disjointed and time-consuming and we were unable to grow our FCE business.”
OccuPro changed that. The platform's simple and intuitive design allowed clinicians to perform evaluations easily, even without extensive experience, while the built-in tutorials helped reduce confusion. “FCEs became ten times easier,” said Tim. “Clinicians actually enjoy doing them now and it made our FCE growth initiatives easier.”
In early 2025, First Settlement upgraded to OccuPro FCE Software 4.0. The transition was seamless and provided the perfect opportunity to onboard more clinicians. With step-by-step guidance built into the software and remote training options, new users quickly felt confident using the system. “It’s a great product, and new users immediately saw the value and were now more interested in performing FCE’s throughout our company,” he noted.
The improvements extended beyond the clinic. Standardized reporting and consistent quality have strengthened referral relationships. Large clients like Walmart and state case managers now rely heavily on First Settlement for their FCE needs. “Walmart case managers have us on speed dial,” Tim said. “They trust our clinicians and know that the FCE reports will be consistent and the process smooth.”
