The Direct Referral Network: 26 Years in the Making

When we founded OccuPro more than 26 years ago, I had a simple vision: help physical and occupational therapy providers better serve injured workers while creating a more objective, consistent, and measurable workers' compensation rehabilitation process.

At the time, workers' compensation programs were often fragmented. Documentation varied significantly from clinic to clinic. Employers, payors, managed care organizations, and referral networks frequently struggled to obtain consistent information regarding patient progress, functional abilities, return-to-work readiness, and rehabilitation outcomes.

Over the past two and a half decades, our team has worked tirelessly to solve those challenges.

Today, I am incredibly proud to say that more than 4,500 clinic locations nationwide utilize the OccuPro platform to manage outpatient workers' compensation rehabilitation, work conditioning and functional capacity evaluations. That journey has led us to the exciting milestone: the launch of the OccuPro Direct Referral Network.

A Foundation Built on Growth and Results

Over the years, we've partnered with organizations of every size, from independent clinics to some of the nation's largest rehabilitation and physical therapy providers.

One trend has remained remarkably consistent.

When clinics fully implement OccuPro's workers' compensation workflows, they often experience significant growth in their occupational health programs, including:

  • Workers' Compensation Referrals
  • Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs)
  • Work Conditioning Referrals

Why? Because payors, employers, referral networks, TPAs, and managed care organizations value consistency. They desire objective documentation and require measurable outcomes. They want confidence that the injured worker is receiving care from providers who understand the unique demands of workers' compensation rehabilitation. Over time, OccuPro providers have built a reputation for delivering exactly that.

Listening to the Industry

One of the most rewarding aspects of building OccuPro has been the relationships we've developed throughout the workers' compensation industry.

Over the years, we've worked closely with:

  • Workers' Compensation Carriers
  • Third-Party Administrators (TPAs)
  • Managed Care Organizations
  • Referral Networks
  • Case Management Organizations
  • Employers

As our provider network continued to grow, we began hearing a common message:

How can we identify more providers utilizing OccuPro?

Again and again, referral organizations told us they preferred providers utilizing the OccuPro platform because they were familiar with the documentation and reporting being produced.

This includes documentation such as:

The request became clear. The industry wasn't just looking for providers. They wanted an easier way to locate providers utilizing the OccuPro platform and connect injured workers directly to those providers. The Direct Referral Network was born from those conversations.

Connecting 4,500 Clinics Through
One Powerful Network

For years, OccuPro has served as the technology platform connecting thousands of clinics through a common set of workers' compe workflows and documentation standards.

The next logical step was creating a platform that allows referral organizations to find, evaluate, and connect with those providers more efficiently.

The Direct Referral Network enables qualified referral partners to:

  • Search for providers by location
  • Identify specialized workers' compensation services
  • Review provider information and capabilities
  • Connect directly with participating clinics
  • Streamline the referral process

By creating a more connected and accessible provider network, we're making it easier for the right referrals to reach the right providers. Referral organizations can identify qualified clinics faster, providers gain greater exposure to referral opportunities, and injured workers benefit from timely access to experienced workers' compensation rehabilitation specialists.

Helping Clinics Grow Their Market Share

One of my greatest passions has always been helping clinics succeed.

Clinics that invest in workers' compensation services, staff training, functional testing, work conditioning, and occupational rehabilitation should be positioned for growth.

Many of our customers have spent years building exceptional workers' compensation programs. They have invested in technology, training, and quality. The Direct Referral Network is designed to make those investments more visible to the organizations responsible for directing referrals.

Our goal is simple:

Help high-performing OccuPro providers connect with more referral opportunities.

By creating greater visibility into the capabilities of our provider network, we believe clinics can continue expanding their presence within their local workers' compensation market while strengthening relationships with payors, employers, and referral organizations.

An Exciting New Chapter

This August, we will begin previewing the Direct Referral Network with industry partners during the Workers' Compensation Institute Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.

We'll spend time demonstrating the platform, gathering feedback, and working closely with workers' compensation leaders as we prepare for broader availability. While the technology itself is exciting, what excites me most is what it represents.

This is the result of 26 years of relationships, collaboration, innovation, and trust.

It's a platform built not only for referral organizations, but also for the thousands of clinics that have helped make OccuPro what it is today. To every clinic, customer, partner, employer, payor, managed care organization, and referral network that has been part of this journey, thank you.

We are incredibly excited about what comes next.

And we're just getting started.
